History of Namaste Yoga

Namaste is a word of Indian origin. When the word is defined by parts, it would mean “I bow to you.” The gesture Namaste represents acknowledgement for another person which is why many yoga practitioners and instructors say this before their yoga sessions begin. This gesture is often used in saying hello and goodbye during yoga sessions. It can be integrated in any yoga class and form and is strongly related to hatha which is the most popular kind of yoga.

When a yoga instructor greets a yogi or a practitioner with Namaste, there will be a sense of connection between both of them which would help in the yoga class or session. The gesture is done in a prayer-like position which is followed by a bow while saying Namaste. This serves as a greeting for the other person.

Origin of Yoga

Yoga comes from the word which means union or becoming one. Those who practice yoga are involved in the union of their mind, body and soul. It originated from the practice of Buddhism, Hinduism and Judaism. Some of the well known forms of yoga are Hatha yoga and Rāja yoga.
